Welcome!

I am so excited about beginning this new year, new decade, and new course with you. Welcome back from your long winter break. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this semester. Please know that I am here to support you so please feel free to ask questions as we move through the semester. Many students wonder why they need to take this course. Hopefully, after watching this short video, you will understand that cost accounting is not just used in manufacturing.

Course Overview:

This course provides the concepts and procedures applied in the accumulation of cost data and the use of these data by management in performing the functions of planning, decision-making and control. The course covers cost behavior, product costing, cost-volume-profit relationships, responsibility accounting, standard costs, cost structures for variance analysis, activity-based costing, direct costing, and special managerial decisions. In addition, principles and procedures in the development, installation, and operation of a system of budgetary control are covered. Ethical and professional concerns relating to the internal reporting are also included.
